Preventing accidents at home can be done. First, read the labels of domestic products, including lyes, acids, detergents and pesticides are just some of the dangerous products that can be found in any home. They also tend to have instructions that facilitate its proper use, information about risks. However, much of the public know the symbols or not clearly identified. But besides these symbols, manufacturers must include mandatory sentences risk warnings as law requires. The houses are not exactly a risk-free oasis for its residents. Most accidents that occur daily taking place in them and mainly affects children. These accidents are of great importance that caused by the use of hazardous household products.
According to Community Information System on Accidents at Home and Time Leisure (EHLASS), 25% of hospitalizations had accidents as a cause poisonings. Women and children being one and four years, are concerned. Knowledge and caution are thus important weapons to avoid the risks associated with the use of these products. Although the labeling of packages include appropriate warning signs, not everyone knows them or correctly identified. This is at least the result of a survey conducted by the Confederation of Family Organisations in the European Community (COFACE) in eight European countries. In Spain, the survey was done by the Federation of the National Civic Union and Housewives Communities of Spain (UNAE). From the results of the same notes that while most respondents have been in contact with dangerous products and even an 8 percent reported having had an accident with them in the past five years, only 3 percent of people surveyed knew the meaning of all symbols hazard warning contained in the product labeling. Either way, people most commonly use these products, those in charge of the house, tend the garden or engage in DIY-tend to have a precise knowledge of the risk posed by these products.
There are, however, some symbols do appear to be well known. 87.4 percent knew the symbol of flammable products, 77.9 percent, the toxic products and 73.3 percent, of the corrosive. On the opposite side of the symbol is less well known products that can cause irritation. This lack of awareness of danger signs consistent with the fact that one third of people believe that the safety can not get a real idea of the risks arising from the use of certain products and a quarter of opinion that are difficult to understand . But another part, nearly half believe that this information is reliable and which are even more effective than those relating to product instructions. The study also notes that most people say read the labels at the time of purchase, but not read when going to use the product, when basic precautions should be taken. And is that as the poet said: “When you’re by my side / I’ll read what you already know … / and so will be completed / once all my ills.”
