One of the most well-known in the business world techniques is brainstorming or brainstorm. However, its poor implementation in many cases makes it one of the most undervalued. Brainstorming is a technique invented by Alex Osborn, that facilitates the generation of creative ideas through group work. While it requires a bit of freedom in proposing options, they also have to meet basic standards. However, on many occasions not met nor one nor the other, which leads to a discussion around any idea normally, that of Chief – rather than an actual brainstorming. To begin with, there must be a moderator, who does not have to be the boss, even on many occasions, it is better that it is not in some cases, even might want to be someone external.

The moderator must get everyone involved, without imposing anything, but keeping some order. In this sense, it is essential that the moderator will get that do not criticize anyone’s ideas, or which seem completely absurd, because from them can arise others that are good. This is an aspect that often fail meetings of this kind, and it is therefore one of the most important tasks (how many times are lost a good idea because someone, usually of more range, says that it is nonsense). It is suitable, as in every meeting, set a schedule and a duration for the session. It is not convenient that it extends too, since it loses freshness.

If necessary, can be a second session from the first, but one or two days later, since so participants can have matured some idea. In any case, and depending on the type of problem analyzed, the duration may be around an hour. It is not suitable that the session is too short, since the first few minutes are usually that leave obvious ideas and breaks the ice a little, and as the session progresses, it will deepen more and stringing ideas.
